Our People: Nazek

We're lucky enough to be able to call on our talented community to volunteer their time, and faces, for Koha Apparel. Get to know one of the faces of Koha E-Commerce; Nazek.

What made you want to volunteer your time with Koha Apparel?
I did get the chance to shop from Koha, but I was fortunate to be chosen for a photoshoot with them. I wanted to donate some clothes and be happy to volunteer my time for some reasons. At some stage of my life, I had more than what I needed, I used to buy a lot of clothes and never wear them, I didn’t really think of people who didn’t have money or clothes because it was the privilege of being born in that class.
However, losing all that I have including my home country and going through the experience of being an asylum seeker, needing help and support with clothes or food or money made me realize how fortunate I was.
I’ve learned to think of people who don’t have what I have, and I have learned to appreciate the small things even if it was some second-hand piece of clothes to keep me warm in winter.
From there I also learned to share and that’s why I decided if I bought some clothes online and didn’t fit me well I should donate them to people who would love them instead of spending more money and a lot of time to return them.
In terms of why I decided to volunteer my time.. as I mentioned losing everything I have put me in that situation when I needed help, and the kindness of some people who volunteer their time to help me encouraged me to do the same and give back to the community.
